Emmett's Word
Book 1
A contract is a contract.
Emmett Voss survived Andersonville by keeping his head down and doing what it took. Now, he’s hauling a General’s coffin from Texas to Louisiana. He expects a hard haul. He doesn’t expect a war.
Captain Gunnison, a ruthless Confederate guerrilla who refuses to surrender, is hunting the wagon. He claims the heavy coffin holds more than just a body, it holds a secret worth killing for. Emmett doesn’t ask questions. He signed a paper, and he intends to deliver.
But he didn’t account for Claire Merritt. The General’s daughter refuses to be left behind. She’s stubborn, desperate to save her family’s land, and handy with a Henry rifle. With his wagon shaking itself to pieces and Gunnison closing in, Emmett runs out of road. He can no longer outmaneuver the pursuit. To keep his word and keep Claire alive, he must stop running and turn to fight. He survived the war. Now, he’ll make sure his enemies don’t.
